I renamed a computer the other day, for instance from itoff-01 to F9-05 but it didnt seem to go all that well when i rebooted i cud no longer log in, this is locally not on the netwrok, i presume my logon credentials havent been updated? but does anyone know a way i can rectify this without imaging the machine?

So it's standalone, and won't accept your logon?

Or it won't accept a local user?

Local administrator logon (not as in group, but the actual administrator login for the machine)?

it seems to be a problem that occured when changing the computer name. It was changed to F9-05 but still shows Itoff-01 for instance!?

Well if you can't log on to the machine at all,

This site might help you:

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Although if you can still log on to the network

you should be able to change local user passwords

as long as that network user has local admin.

Yikes!

Remember kids to always put the HDD at the top of the boot order and lock the BIOS

But you knew that anyway ...right?

...or better yet NetworkGeezer, lock the computers away so they cant access them :p

but anyway people....

*puts mod hat on*

Please keep on topic...

Sorry if i missed it, but when you say u cant log on locally, and you changed the computer name - is the computer attached to a domain at all?

If so, there lies the problem I'd guess - especially if u have something set in the GP that may suddenly come into affect with this new computer name [if it even allowed it] i.e. a "prevent local log on" type security policy

Gonna take a lot of work to stop these things then? lol

Allow Progs list hex path as well as exe

Password protect bios boot order HDD then net boot, no option for FDD or CD boot!

Just leave the computers turned off and the rooms locked. Sorted.

Yeah it can be like one of those conceptual art installations.

The visitor revenue will make a nice income stream for the school. enough to buy the odd GP2X ;)
