Hi there

We have a cc3 network, some of our user's top level work folders are listed in blue colour as opposed to the usual black. Any ideas what this is about?!

may I ask why Windows does this?

I noticed that one user (only one) had his home folder compressed by Windows, he didn't have a full quota (it wasn't even in the warning area).

I originally thought he had done it himself :bowl:

He probably has. As far as I can remember it isn't something you want everyone doing though as it can place a fair load on the server as it has to decompress each file to use.

Well, the client does. The server just hands it out.

Surely that's not true? If I request file abc.doc from the server, then the server will send me that file - not some compressed version of it.

If this wasn't the case then you wouldn't be able to use compressed files with clients which can't read NTFS (eg Windows 95, 98, Linux etc etc) and they work just fine!
