We have this strange problem with NetSsupport, when the DHCP lease expires and the client gets a new IP address, NetSupport does not seem to be picking up the change and therefore you can't connect to the machine using the Tutor console.

Has anybody seen this before, or do you have any suggestions to how to solve it?

HI

I used to have this a lot with netsupport after breaks that were longer then the dhcp lease on the computers. What happens is they get a different dhcp address and so netsupport cannot find them.

Find the new ip address of the client

Go into the properties of the computer in netsupport and change it to the new address.

We had similar grief with IP based "filtering"; so in the end we decided to use machine prefixes so LANG, ENG etc which picked up the right cluster of machines.

In net support tutor go into school ->configuration->connectivity and check connect by host name. This makes it connect by name not IP address. If you have more than one tutor machine you will have to do it on all of them

It could be, i've compared DHCP, DNS and WINS and there are some inconsistancies, duplicate entries on the revserse lookup zone. I've deleted them and let them re-created to see what happens.

This is definatly the way to go in a DHCP environment.

adamf - report back if that doesn't fix the problem
