Ok I am trying to follow the instructions on the Moodle Docs page & i am a bit lost. I have placed the Enrolment plugin in the 'mod' folder and just get a "Module "sims" is not readable - check permissions" error when logging in. Is this something I have done wrong? Got it. Needs to be copied to the enrol folder. Right on to the next problem... I mean challenge

Me again. All sorted! Huzzah. The only other wierdness I have spotted was that on first log on users seem to fail the LDAP auto logon but are still logged in. Bizzare and it seems to fix itself. If I find rhyme or reason I'll post.

I've been reading around this subject and its worrying that its seems that Capita's stance is that you're not allowed direct access to the SIMS DB or there will be implications. How are people getting round this or is everyone just biting the bullet and creating the queries/views to allow direct access to the SIMS DB?

I have created an alternative version that doesn't rely on direct DB access. We are nearing a release that supports SIF. A Demo of SIMS2MOODLE/SIF2MOODLE is avaliable at SchoolsICT's Moodle Demonstration

SIMS2MOODLE uses command reporter to get information out of SIMS.net

SIF2MOODLE uses our Moodle SIF Agent.

 

SIF2MOODLE will superceed SIMS2MOODLE once released as it will handle parental engagement and reporting.

The information is pull from sims every hour and push into moodle. SIMS2MOODLE is open source. It comes with an installation and support package.

Just wondering what definition of 'Open Source' you are using? Since these two statements appear to contradict each other. This one, Open source - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia which I'd think is pretty good, states 'the end-product (and source-material) available at no cost to the public'. This would normally imply a downloadable source location.

 

Or am I missing something here?

Hi Tony,

 

SIMS2MOODLE is released under the GPL Licence, under this licence there can be charges for distributio thats why it has been packaged with on-site installation and support. The GPL Licence allows the user to then modify the source code as the needs arises among other things.

Sims has just updated the database to MS SQL 2008 and the plugin has stopped working, any ideas what could have caused this?

Same problem with our new MS SQL 2008 as well, Just wondering whether you got the solution.

It seems like Advance firewall in 2008 server blocking connecting to sims instance.

Check the port number. I think the default has changed to 1433. Also check the DB username and password as SQL 2008 made the password need to be more complex. Also don't forget to change the academic year field.

 

Beyond that as far as I am aware it is all working here.

Wel thanks for your reply, basically i have open port for sims instance on 1433 and also added firewall rules, but when i do port scan sql server port wont showup and unable to communicate with tsql. Any ideas??
