Proposal To Provide An Interim Joomla Package

Hi This sounds great. I have been hanging on for months waiting for an edugeek package. The dep head has given me a couple of weeks to get something together but I need to go live with it by then so maybe an Apha is not the way to go on the net. I do have a local test system though which I wouldn't mind trying it on. I'll skype.

The only reason its alpha is I have never packaged up a site to be re-installed by someone else on another ISP.

CLEO hosting works - just get your SQL database created if you haven't done so (contact ICT Centre) and I can just simply give you a joomlapack packed copy of my test install and I can tell you exactly which values enter when it asks questions

Alpha 2 is ready to download

 

I've removed all contentious items, cut back on file size (down to 21MB) and just used a JoomlaPack archive

I've downloaded it back to myself - its 21.3MB (21808 in xp explorer) and I can unzip it

I've installed that OK locally, the logos across the bottom appear to be missing. The logo's folder is empty

It works locally for me as well

I took my schools logos out but there is something residual in the artcile that I need to edit

 

Glad it installs OK

 

Anyone fancy the dridgery of uploading to an ISP and testing it out in the real world?

I've sent out a PM to all alpha testers with a copy of a link to a beta version 0.9.

 

If that seems to work OK then I think we are good to go

 

I've uploaded it to one of those free upload places - please let me know if its OK to use.

 

 

If not, I'll PM you a link and look for somewhere else to host the public distribution.

If you like to see what it could look like, have a look at St Leonards to see the site it will be based on.

 

The package will in no way approach the excellent standards of Sysman and aloneBFG but I just want to help out others get started with Joomla as its a reasonable way to get a nice looking site without TOO much effort

Yes that is the correct. layout that your seeing on the link i posted is how it should look. No wonder your not convinced when you compare it to:

The design (under the bonnet) is actually quite sophisticated

 

It just looks poor

 

It it ever reaches the published stage, I'll explain its advantages

 

(Basically its a very low maintenance version of the normal 1.5 Edugeek Joomla Package - modified for primary schools and needs very little effort to maintain on the part of webmasters (in this case me ) once its set up)

 

If anyone fancies making a nicer looking 968x150 generic header image, I'll stick it in the final release

Now that edugeek's joomla packages are back up and running I'm withdrawing my little effort (take your pick )

 

However, I'm starting another thread off with my packages main feature - the auto simple menu module
