I assume perhaps naively that it would via the alt= tag in the actual page source; but perhaps joomla has a more clever way of generating said code.

 

The chap who runs that site will no doubt see/reply to this thread shortly.

I think that is actually part of the image as the script that comes with the EduJoomla package will not allow you to achieve anything like that.

Oh, like flash?

The script that comes with Joomla does the flash part, you just have to tell it where the images are that you want it to display. You can choose all sorts of transitions and effects from within Joomla but you can only have one caption and it puts it in a bar along that bottom. That is what leads me to suspect that in this case the caption is actually part of the image.

The captions on there are just on the images themselves. It using JSN ImageShow. Just had a look at the xml file the flash script is using and it just images. For example here is one of the images.
