Athlona Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 About a year ago I setup a teachers outlook2003 with a Hotmail account details and it worked great, but the PC has been remastered and I can't remember where the proxy details need to be enter? Please any help would be great... Thanks

Is this part of your standard system image? Its working fine for me after downloading the Hotmail and Outlook connection tool from Microsoft, the address is below. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA102218231033.aspx#2 As long as you have 2003 or newer then it will work fine. I'm assuming the OP has a problem setting proxy settings in this tool, rather than not being aware they need it. Haven't used it myself but I'd assumed it would pick up the IE settings like most MS apps. 1
Michael Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 You can't specify proxy settings in Outlook 2003. This is all done in Internet Explorer - Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings 1
Athlona Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 Hi IE7 has all the proxy information entered ok, web access asks for a user name and a password and the internet works fine!!! normal pop email accounts work great its just hotmail that I am having a problem with:(

Were you aware of this? This used to be the case but is no longer true. I have a standard Hotmail account and am able to synchronise my mail and contacts using the Outlook Connector. (I don't have a Technet subscription either.) At present you do need a paid account to synchronise calendar details, but even that is being phased out in the near future - the beta of the new Outlook connector can sync the calendar on a standard Hotmail account. I can't say I've ever tried it through a proxy, so I'm not 100% sure what the problem might be, but I'll give it a try sometime today if I have time and try to advise. 1
OutToLunch Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 (edited) Just given at go myself with my Hotmail account, Outlook 2003 and Connector 12.1 - it seems that it definitely picks up the IE proxy but doesn't have any mechanism to prompt you to authenticate - if I disable the proxy, it connects and displays my Hotmail account. If I enable it, I get an immediate connection error but no prompt... Could you set them up a gmail account, set Hotmail to autoforward then access Gmail via IMAP in Outlook instead? Or use something like FreePOPs - http://www.freepops.org/en/ - and configure it to leave mail on the server. Edited December 19, 2008 by OutToLunch 1

OutToLunch Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Doh. Me not reading fully into the options. Forwarding You can forward your mail to one other e-mail address that ends in hotmail.com, msn.com, live.com, or is part of Windows Live Custom Domains. Useful. Not.
