Recovering a deleted folder on the network

perhaps not the right title. A pupil was having trouble with a pen drive being recognized on a machine, so I logged on as network admin and let the computer recognize it, opened the pen drive to check it was working and somehow managed to delete a folder. Without realizing this I logged off and allowed the pupil to log on again, and that was when she realized the folder was missing. There are no backups of the folder in school or at home. Is this folder lost forever or is there a recycle bin somewhere where I could locate this?

Use one of the free undelete utilities off the web like recuva or this - don't write anything to the drive or it'll knacker your chances of recovering the data. Edited December 10, 2008 by tech_guy

I would take a copy of the drive as is and put it on your desktop then use any of these utils here: PM me for address ok.

Freeundelete is a pretty good file recovery app.

This gets my vote, used it on USB's before with much sucess.

We installed Samba for our students homedrives because it is better for file sharing than windows server.

When using the 'recycle' module the delete button just copies the file to a recycle bin, thus we can always recover deleted files.

This is where turning on Previous Versions is a life saver... ofcourse its no good on a pen drive but great foe home drives share
