Hi

I have just bought a new SIMS box and before I move my data over etc I want to just check I have sims installed and working. I have done a fresh install which all seems fine however the new install has no passwords/users set up.

What I need to know is the default username and password SIMS has at fresh install? Anyone know?

Cheers

I too thought it was sysman/password but having done a disaster recovery exercise last week it didn't work for me either, so I dbattached their db's and logged in as them which did work :)

Ah, I'd try "sysman" or "system" then or possibly even "master" (the default passwords are rarely all that imaginative/secure) I think our sysman password was setup as abcd by capita when we first had it installed

As above your probably better off restoring a copy of your own database and the doc storage folder to the new server for testing purposes.

Thanks. I have indeed gone down the route of restoring our own database.

Cheers for all the replies.

Don't forget to restore/copy your SNova folder over if you use NovaT. by the way I have just had to recover SIMS after a server failure and sysman password worked for me on a blank database

Attaching your existing database is definately the way to go... I actually have a dummy server for trying stuff out on (including upgrades sometimes) without clogging up the main SIMS system.

If you do attach NewSimsDatabase.mdf, if I remember, the login should be sysman/password, but you'll then need to run SIMSConfig and apply a couple of patches before you can log in to it.

In moving SIMS from the main to a temporary server and back I hit some strange user name password anomalies which although easily correctable intrigue me. After changing to the temporary server about 10 users couldn't log on and needed their passwords resetting (out of 120). On moving back to a clean install on a new SQL instance with the old mdf file removed some, but not all, of these users reverted to their old password anf 2 new users who had never had accounts on the old(dead) system needed new passwords. I know it's connected with the way passwords are stored in the master DB but this was a new SQL install with a new master DB so I would have expected the old passwords to have completely disappeared
