Ayaz Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Hi I am developing our school website using Joomla and its not far off completion. I work in a school in Birmingham and we have our static (old) website hosted by BGfL+. They however do not support Joomla on BGfL+ so I am looking for an external web host that does support Joomla. Do any of you guys know of a good web host that you can vouch for that support PHP, MySQL and Joomla?

JOrdan01070 Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Hi Ayaz we have a joomla website hosted by Link2ICt and we are a plus school. never had any problems with the web site. I think the cost for hosting is £100 a year plus a one off cost of £50 to set it up. the only issue i see is Link2ICT only use joomla v1 not v1.5 but that may have changed, as it was sept 2007 when we went for it. We've done exactly the same as the OP and have moved from Link2ICT/BGFL are now using nativespace. We paid £55 for the year and have brought our own domain too. They also let you pay via Invoice If you need any help lemme know Ben

Ours is Linux based if i remember rightly. Were going to redirect our .bham.sch.uk domain to the new .co.uk domain. If you want to use your .bham.sch.uk then you'll have to contact Link2ICT and ask them to change the DNS entries to point to the new host. Our .co.uk was £10 for 2 years.

As for using your www.school.bham.sch.uk address contact your the people responsible for your domain (normally your RBC/LA) and ask them to point the A Record for www to whichever IP your host assigns you. (If you use CSNewMedia Carl provides this IP as standard) Once that's done, ensure your host is aware of the domain you're using so they can use it as a Virtual Host on their set up for your package. We have been in business 3 years now, we are a debt free business and have been profitable every single year. We are also VAT registered so we do have quite a substantial turnover and we aren't going anywhere just yet. Feel free to email sales with any additional questions (I think you contacted us earlier).

kmount Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 You can install any version of Joomla onto their hosting. As for Sharepoint, I would doubt it as it's a bit more specialist than the average.

Yes, you can use any version. But we do recommend using the latest version of Joomla at all times for your own security. We only support Sharepoint on dedicated servers.
