JAW Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Hi, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad R500 & have created a Windows XP image. I found after I imaged the Laptop that every time I inserted a USB Pen the Laptop would restart. I have tested the USB pen & it is working fine. I have also wrung Lenovo & done a BIOS update but still did not fix the problem. I have a Event viewer system report below: - Event Type: Error Event Source: System Error Event Category: (102) Event ID: 1003 Date: 12/5/2008 Time: 12:07:26 PM User: N/A Computer: ADMINISTRATOR90 Description: Error code 1000007e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 f7c088f3, parameter3 f7c087f4, parameter4 f7c084f0. FN-GM Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 I have this but with a server. I forget every time and it reboots during the day. As yet i haven't found a fix. 1
jamesb Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 I don't know if this'll necessarily help, but it looks like it could be related: "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0xD1)" Stop error occurs in Windows Server 2003 when you remove a USB device 1
mrtechsystems Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Posted from Expert Exchange The crash is at usbport.sys and there has no known hit for this module. Most likely it is a ram problem. You had bettert provide a complete list of system event 1001 as I can confirm it is RAM problem. Maybe the culprit is related to other hardware component or software driver problem. The system event 1001 is essential to diagnostic your problem. When Windows crashes with blue screen, it writes a system event 1001 and a minidump to the folder \windows\minidump Check system event 1001 and it has the content of the blue screen. Control Panel -> Adminstrative Tools -> Event Viewer -> System -> Event 1001. Copy the content and paste it back here Please check the links: When you use a Creative Labs SoundBlaster 16 Joystick with a game port in Windows XP, you receive a "serious error" or a "STOP: 0x0000007E" error message ERROR SIGNATURE BCCode 1000007e - Microsoft Usenet If you think that your On-Board USB-Ports can cause the problem, just deaktivate them in the BIOS, an use your USB2.0 USB Card Hope this helps sorry for the long post 1
JezR Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 I've had something very similar when using RIS. Turned out to be that when your base Windows image is SP2, and your new image is SP3, the wrong usb drivers end up in the distributed image. As you've discovered, the computer reboots when you plug in a USB device. Jez 1
JezR Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 This prety much explaines the problem. RIS problem XP SP3 - Windows Deployment However I decided it was a good time to start using WDS, slowly rebuilding images with SP3 in WDS, but you still have the SP2 images available in RIS. Jez 1

JAW Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 Would anyone know what drivers I need to extract from my Windows XP service pack 2 disk & replace to get my usb working properly. I would appreciate the help Thanks JAW$

sy2k Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I know in the past we've had issues with the ghost client causing reboots when pen drives are plugged in
Michael Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Completely unrelated, but it could also be a motherboard problem. Does it happen on all USB ports? What about other USB devices like mice, cameras, scanners or external hard drives?
box_l Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 run this sfx inside the rar also replace the files in your ris image The usb files in this directory are from an SP2 machine and are to be placed back into the c:windows\system32\drivers directory after sp3 install. Only the usbehci.sys and usbport.sys need to be copied back. regards BoX Edu-Tech 2008readme.txtSP2USB-Fix.rar
