I know File recovery has come up alot before but i have to bring it up again as my ForumFu has failed me. Basically i have a USB Pen thats showing nothing on it but i know theres data on it. I think its a corrupted partition table and i know if i run scandisk on it, it will find all the files and recover them to .chk files so i dont want to do that. Anyone know of a good util that will recover the drive?

try pci file inspector or recuva

Pci just crashes out after it scans for drives and i think i tried recuva before, it has problems too. I will try the latest copy of recuva just incase im wrong.

TestDisk - CGSecurity is always handy if you fear a corrupt partition table but think the backup is ok - you can just swap them over. Alternatively, have you tried booting with the stick plugged into a Knoppix/Linux Live CD distro? A lot of the time when things aren't working right on Windows anymore Knoppix saves the day by happily reading it.

Well Recuva seems to recover some but then crashed my test pc.. somehow it just sucked up all my hdd free space.

Having a look at testdisk and knoppix just saw an empty drive.. dunno if i can do anything with gparted, never used it but read somewhere that the partition can be rebuilt with nix.

Did you look at the docs at TestDisk Step By Step - CGSecurity ? Specifically the info on deep searching for partitions.

Testdisk rescued an apparently blank drive by tweaking FATs on an (according to Windows) suddenly blank drive which was actually an entire 80gb worth of my friends final year project work. Few beers were owed after that one!
