SimpleSi Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 My daughter just took out a new contract on a Nokia N96 and is a bit disappointed with its reliability. She reckons its frozen on her half a dozen times since we bought it on Saturday and she has to remove the battery to restart it. Anyone else had these sort of issues with one? Sylv3r Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Not sure of the issues you are mentioning, but you could consider upgrading the firmware if their is a more recent update available. It certainly helped with the issues I used to have with my old Nokia N80.

I'd third the recommendation for doing a firmware update, just follow the instructions at Nokia UK - Phone software updater. I'm currently running software version 10.065, there is an update available to 11.101. I do know that on the original n95 there were a lot of freezing issues which were fixed with firmware updates. The Nokia Software Updater said the phone had v10.065 and the latest is 11.018! Maybe the people in the shop should update these things before they sell them cause I can't see your average punter doing firmware updates regards Simon

saundersmatt Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 (edited) I wouldn't trust a goon in a phone shop to update my phone, rather do it myself! Don't worry too much about running the same firmware, it would appear that your product code is different to mine, is it network branded? Quackers Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Hard reset: 1. Switch off the phone. 2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button. 3. While holding these buttons, hold the power button for a second to switch on the phone. 4. Release when the phone shows the nokia hands logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen. It may take a few attempts and very flexible fingers!

SimpleSi Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 No problem back at the shop - they just replaced it but not doing much better with this one Checked its firmware and it was same as original one - 10.065 so updated it straight away to 11.018. It won't connect to my wireless router - well actaully what it won't do is use it to access the internet The old one did connected fine Spent 1 hour on phone to Orange support, they tried everything they knew but no luck. I'll give it one more go tomorrow and then its back to the shop and get something else Daughter not happy at all! regards Simon
Quackers Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Is it Orange branded firmware then? If so first thing i would do is change product code of phone so it picks up generic firmware. Orange are the worst for ruining Nokia phones with there branding, they made my N80 useless until i flashed it to the generic firmware and bang, phone worked as Nokia intended not Orange.

SimpleSi Posted December 7, 2008 Author Posted December 7, 2008 Well - eventually got the new one working on t'internet and it dosn't seemd to have crashed so far My nephew turned up from University and he used to have an N95 so he got it sorted for us Ta for suggestions Simon
