mac_shinobi Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Looking to get a cheapish / reasonable surround sound amp and was wondering if there was anyone ie audio phile who could give me some good recomendations. Thanks
RabbieBurns Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 I got a sony a couple of januarys back. Was around £100. Its only 5.1, I believe 7.1 is the norm now. Its been great. Not sure if Richer Sounds is a nation wide company or just a local one, but they have great gear. Richer Sounds
Dos_Box Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Richer Sounds is indeed nationwide, and I just got my Onkyo 606 AV Amp from them...and my Tangent DAB seperate system...and my centre speaker. All very reasonbly priced, and the service is great.
Dos_Box Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 In fact they have a Yamaha AV amp for £169! http://www.richersounds.com/common/productpictures/304712.jpg It also has HDMI. Not bad for that price! YAMAHA RXV363 at Richer Sounds - HI-FI Separates, Home Cinema, Speakers, MP3 DVD Portables, Plasma LCD, etc.
john Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Also agree with Richer Sounds, orderd some kit from them for work once and were very helpful and quick at sending it, and I liked the kit that much I then bought the same stuff for me as well
Guest Guest Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Budget? Like anything audio you really really do get you pay for. Persoanlly id rather have a quality stereo kit than a cheap and nasty surround sound. Basically you wanna be looking for brands like Onkyo, denon and yamaha, and avoiding the likes of sony and alwa.
kesomir Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I can recommend richer sounds as well. I have a yamaha amp I bought from them with a set of Mordaunt Short speakers for 5.2 setup about five years ago - sound is wonderful and no probs with any of the equipment.
Ric_ Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 There's also some very nice remanufactured ONKYO gear on Ebay at the moment. I just bought a TX-SR806 and it's ace! (Possibly not is your price range but at £450 I was happy).
PeterW Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I have the Yamaha RX-V363, its pretty good for the price. Only complaint is it won't take audio from HDMI sources so I have seperate SPDIF cables going to it, not really the end of the world.
john Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Must admit im a Yamaha fan, I have the RX-N600D Amp and its great, no HDMI which is a bit of a -ive but has USB and LAN connectivity as well as built in DAB Radio tuner, so I can stream my music from my PC to it as well as internet radio.
