Redirecting URL automatically!!!

Hi

 

Have setup a windows XP Pro SP1 with IIS and i have a local intranet page setup on it, i can access this fine anywhere on the network.

 

At the moment i access it by either typing http://(ip address) on IE or htt://(computer name).

 

How do i setup something on IIS so that if i type EduGeek.net on any machines on network it will redirect me to the above page???

or even type http:// and it will take me to that correct address to launch the intranet page????

If you are running a DNS server you could add an alias?

That would be the easiest /\

 

Otherwise it's a case of editing the local lmhosts files on each machine (I believe?)

If you want to do that would you not be better using squid guard or dansguardian.

Seems a bit extreme rather than just adding a DNS record mapping an alias to host?

If you can tell us why you want to do this... then probably we can, between us, work out the best solution! I am always wary of solving narrow problems in isolation
