Just had a pack through the post from SCC containing my Job Evaluation..

My pay has been reduced by almost £2,500 PA!!!!

How this is "improving people's lives" i'll never know..

Gonna speak to my Line Manager tomorrow to start an appeal as the Job Description is FOUR YEARS out of date!!

lodge an appeal immediately. They will only consider appeals if you've been matched to the wrong job.

Remember *forget* about the job title, and appeal on the fact that they have matched you to the wrong role given your current role and responsibilities.

Thank CyberNerd..

Gonna need to go thorugh my JD with a fine toothcombe and ensure that its up to date cos I do a heck of a lot more than whats outlined in the pack..

It states that the pay doesnt take effect for 18 months (from April 2008)

Most annoying considering my pay went up this month too!

One hand giveth... :(

I think you can rely on evidence other than your job description for examples of 'extra' responsibility.

Don't get hung up on the "i lookafter x amount of computers" I know it's a favorite to whine about around here, but a job evaluator isn't going to care. They are likely to be looking for things like: Financial responsibility, long term planning (>5yrs), line management responsibility and basically how much you need to know and in what level.

Been told ours is at least another year away. Like most people I just want it over and done with.

You got your common job roles yet?

My job description is'nt update yet as of Sept 2008

No, was told the common job descriptions from last year have been scrapped and the new ones not made yet.

You should have a Job Evaluation folder within your school, we got the common job roles last week.

A key element of the 'points' scoring system used by most HR organisations for Job evaluation is supervisory responsibility.

Make sure this is well defined and supported by evidence too. Even if you happen to be a NM with no staff reporting at present, if the role would normally include supervising a team of technicians make sure it is defined in the job description.

If your JE is anything like the one I went through(not salford - and i left before completion), you can only appeal that you have been matched to the wrong role AND if your Line Manger and Headteacher agree that they are your responsibilities. I had my Line Manager agree that my Job Description was out of date and needed to be updated, all this was agreed verbally with the head(who wanted it changed slightly to include line management), until it came to putting my new Job Description in for JE. Then the head changed his mind and stated that the responsibility of managing a network was not my job but the ICT CoOrdinators. Although they would agree that I did have "partial" responsibility for running the network in the school, the contract they offered stated that the work I did was under direction and supervision from the ICT CoOrdinator.

This wasn't accurate and I wouldn't accept this as it would result in a lower scale through JE than what I was actually doing. You will need to backup your claims of the roles and respsonsibilities you have. As CyberNerd has said, the amount of work you had is an issue with your employer, the type of work you carry out if the interest of the person evaluating your job.

If like many of us, your workload has increased with more responsibilities without written proof, it may be wise to start documenting this. Get everything in writing as soon as possible so you can use it as evidence if needed.
