lumparoosa Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 We are looking at doing this for our VLE, so that during "free time" the kids will be allowed to play on an "approved" list of games, i may also have some form of student forum which will decide whether certain games should be allowed or not as per our pupil engagement commitment. Matt hey mattmoo by the way any information you can give to me about that little project??? or when it may plan to take action???
mattmoo Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 hey mattmoo by the way any information you can give to me about that little project??? or when it may plan to take action??? probably next term which will be April 20th + Maybe I should create a Wiki and try and get some other schools involved, we could create some form of Education Games Alliance for approved games. Matt

Matt the EGA... hmmm sounds sophisticated. the thing is the games that would be on there would have to be puzzling ones yes puzzling but not boring maybe even get games tested by kids ages 5-12 13-18 you know? but it could eben possibly cut back on classroom disruptions. it would be a big program to. once school boards see that it is successful then every board will be clamoring for the program
Bigape Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Why do I get the feeling that Davenater is a student/pupil?
GWALT Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 i think 'social types' answer is daft, if i finished work back when i went to school my teacher would ask me to start looking at the next assignment or check over and add things to the document at hand. not play space invaders.

Welcome to the 21st century. The culture at school is a lot different to how it was 10 years ago let alone if your older then that. As has been said before, the teenagers of today are the first generation to not know what it is like to live without computers / internet. Therefore the way teaching and learning is approached now, has to include technology and if it means giving kids 5 mins free time to play games online then so be it. Its a quick win and you can concentrate on the kids that take longer to finish the assignments and obviously need more help. All that and im a techie not a teacher matt
GWALT Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 hold on, no need to welcome me to the 21st century, i was in it for 2 years of my secondary school life.
mattmoo Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 hold on, no need to welcome me to the 21st century, i was in it for 2 years of my secondary school life. I was only joking anyways, more tonuge in cheek. Matt
GrumbleDook Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Game based learning is a massive area and can really add a lot to what / how students learn. Look at the use of Myst by Tim Rylands or the work of Graham Brown-Martin on Handheld Learning ... However, many of the sites that students use are just down to time wasting ... and there are examples of teachers telling kids to 'go and play games' for 5-10 minutes (or even complete lessons) rather than teach a full lesson ... so you can imagine how well this goes down with SMT. I do think the occassional access is fine ... but it gets abused, so it gets blocked.
nobody Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 wow that sure is one of the more clever flash game sites I have seen heh.
