Ultra short throw projectors and rear projection

We need a more permanent projection system in our hall for presentations. Our exisitng setup involves a huge 'pull-up' screen and a portable projector that we set up in front of the stage. Of course this means that the stage itself cannot be used at the same time.

 

To the rear of the stage are the pipes for the organ and the ceiling is on the rather high side. This got me thinking... what about a permanent screen with a 'floor' mounted ultra short throw projector behind it so that it is all kept out of the way of whatever is happening on the screen.

 

So I wondered if anyone had anything similar?

A short throw projector is exatly what you're after. We have some little Hitachis that need no more than about 6" throw distance Edited November 17, 2008 by powdarrmonkey

Yeh I am desperatly trying to get hold of a short throw projector for the hall myself as the crappy old one I use for assembly's recquires me to decimate about 4 rows of chairs in order to get a decent sized picture!!!!

Hence the ultra short throw requirement.

I think that we could afford to lose 0.5m or so because the stage is not used a great deal (at the moment the screen is placed near the front of the stage!).

What's it like for brightness and what sort of image size are you getting?
