Travel Expenses

Don't know if this has been discussed before or if in right place but here goes.

 

Currently been put on a course by the school, but as i don't drive i have been getting the bus to my course, which takes two buses and is costing about £3 one way.

 

I was just thinking about it and i don't know if i am entitled to any travel expenses as £3 a week for a year is going to add up and its is coming out of my pocket.

 

The course is great and i am glad the school put me on it but i want to know if i can ask for either reimbursements or even them block booking a taxi each week for me.

My gut instinct would be to say you should be entitled to some reimbursement. Best thing to do is approach your Bursar and ask them directly!

Hmm I think this could be tricky unless it was part of your agreement when you took the job. My job was advertised with travelling expenses so there is no issue.

 

If not, then it is probably down to how generous the school will be. Anyway there is no harm in asking is there.

If you travel from and too school then they should pay for the whole journey.

If you travel too and from home, then they should cover the difference ie miles to course - miles to work = miles of reimbursement.

 

I think that is fairly standard practise.

If you are asked to go somewhere on official business such as a course, meeting etc... then you are entitled to have your costs met.

I travel from the school to the course and then from the course to my home. So should i request expenses for both.

Agreed, If your normal journey involves a zero-cost expense (i.e. you walk/cycle/parasail), you should be entitled to have all your bus expenses reimbursed.

 

If you normally get the bus home, then you should normally be entitled to the difference between the cost of getting back from the course and the cost of your normal journey, as k-strider explained in terms of mileage (which is how it works if you normally drive).

Well i walk to work so my travel expenses are nothing, but to get back from my course i have to get the bus again.

£6 a day over once a week for a year adds up.

We get per mile, wheither it's a bus or a car.

 

Gits at Games Workshop just phone Taxi and get it charged to GW if they don't drive. If I tried that, like many others, I'll get shot.

Just calculated the fares i would incur over the whole of the course and it is just over £400.

They have said it would be fine so just sorting it out now.
