CM786 Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Hi Guys, I appologise if this is a poor question, but my knowledge of SIMs is very limited. I have no training in supporting SIMS and the LEA have no local SIMS team either. Basically was told to not touch sims and leave it up to Capita! One of my head teachers is plannng on buying a laptop for our (newly promoted) office manager. He wants her to be able to work on SIM's data from home and then when she comes into the office, link the laptop up to her office PC and synchronise the data someway (rather like a PDA); saves her coming into school during holidays and frees up some more time for her. We cannot use VPN (LEA don't allow it), so is this kind of sych between laptop and desktop thing possible? I know the question is sort of vague since I need to ask the office manager, what exactly she wants to be able to access on her laptop. This is for a primary school. Thanks
GrumbleDook Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Yes, it is a solution called "teachers' Desktop" and is only really relevant for some things. I would check on the SIMS site to see if it does exactly what she wants, but you do have access to all students details (which means that the office manager needs to be aware of DPA and I would advise that you get them to sign a piece of paper saying that they are aware of DPA to cover your back if anything happens to the laptop) The synchronsing is a bit clunky (which is why we are leaving it and going for the TS over HTTPS option)
CM786 Posted May 2, 2006 Author Posted May 2, 2006 Thanks Tony I'm back in the school this afternoon, so I'll have a word with her.
