Preferred the "Windows Button" in Vista when Vista was booting, Win7 now just has a progress bar..

 

Need a copy to test the more important aspect - performance, compatibility, etc..

Apple are doing something similar with OSX 10.6 aka snow leopard. Probably not a lot of difference UI wise, emphasising stability and discreet changes.

 

I think part of the reason for going for a brand new OS name rather than merely a point upgrade is becuase of the seriously bad press vista had. It's hard to imagine how Vista's first six months could have been any worse. Even now despite a lot of the positive noises a lot of mud has stuck, and Windows 7 through appropriate marketing is a chance for M$ to undo some of the damage. All they have to do now is think carefully about upgrade pricing and not let the release date slip too much.

 

I think it'll be a winner.....it's just a question of when business and education will be ready and willing to embrace it. Windows 7 business SP1 perhaps ?

I would have to agree with this, Windows 7 is essentially a polished Vista with some added features and the bonus of having had time for mature drivers to be released.

Problem is... if it looks like Vista, feels like Vista then MS are gonna have a hard time persuading people to shell out more £££. They need to change that UI a bit to fix the stuff people don't like in Vista now and make it stand out as a new product rather than a rather pricey service pack

tbh I agree, the new SM's are better imho and I basically use the last 10 programs most so it makes it faster to run for me. Vista's start menu search is awesome too (for shortcuts at least)

I agree, XP's was a step forward. Now with the Vista one, they have so many things on it, its become cluttered and hard to use

I can tolerate the XP one, hate the vista one. But I prefer the Classic.

 

I remove Help and Support, and have a shortcut to the 5 most used apps in the quicklaunch, and the other 5 at the top of the start menu.

 

I also use the windows classic theme.

you dont need a key to install. It gives you xx days cant remember 120 I think?

latest available build is 30 day activation, but some versions have the ability to disable this.

Finally installed Win7 on a VPC - so far so good

runs nicely with 1GB ram

 

No Aero but prob cos its VPC.. will burn ISO to DVD and try on a suitable PC at work...
