Guest Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Here is the situation. I am currently using a PPC MAC MINI running OSX 10.3.x as an iTunes media server with a Keyspan IR remote. I am planning on upgrading to Tiger and using either Front Row or Media Central for media duties. I also wanted to use the new Apple Remote rather than the Keyspan remote. Well after some research I came across http://www.andrewescobar.com/archive/2005/12/15/on-apples-remote-infrared-and-your-mac/ which in turn lead me to http://homepage.mac.com/rahamana/home/blog/blog.html#unique-entry-id-5 Now I had the problem that everyone else seems to have, in that these files don’t work. So after downloading and running RMD napsyeK I got the required info and created a new .REM file This .REM file works flawlessly with the Apple Remote (model number A1156) and I am able to edit the buttons to any keystroke using the Keyspan .MAP files. I am currently controlling iTunes with it and plan to use it with either the Front Row hack or Media Central. Now seeing as I love this site so much I decided I would upload the file here for all you great folks here at Edugeek with non Intel Macs. Enjoy
ja0912 Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 erm. Might just be me, but where's the .REM? I would love it. edit: now that i'm registered it's there. my bad.
Guest Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 *Update* Now have my PPC Mini running OS X 10.4.6, Front Row 1.2.1 and all controlled via an Apple Remote.
lacivicmadness Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Were you able to get fast forward and rewind to function properly in Front Row? After downloading and running RMD napsyeK I was able to get it to work, but the Fast Forward and Rewind functions will not work when I am playing a track in iTunes or a Movie in Front Row
chiefofapple Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Were you able to get fast forward and rewind to function properly in Front Row? After downloading and running RMD napsyeK I was able to get it to work, but the Fast Forward and Rewind functions will not work when I am playing a track in iTunes or a Movie in Front Row Run the keyspan remote map editor and set acceleration for the left and right buttons to fast. Worked for me!
Guest Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Now using Front Row 1.2.2 - Fast Forward and Rewind functions work a treat here too
ighal Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Thanks for these files, i was really looking for them. My problem is that its not working on my end. Im doing everything you are telling here but when i press one button of the remote it says "unrecognized button". Attached is a picture for you to see. Thanks for your help. I.
Guest Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Sorry to hear that. The only poss is that different models of the apple remote have different remote codes.
scottrussell Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 I'm having the same trouble with "unrecognized data" after trying the .REM and .MAP files from SYSMAN_MK and rahaman. I tried to use the terminal program NAPSYEK to monitor the IR signals sent to my Keyspan IR receiver. This worked initially, but no after updating to the latest Keyspan software (v2.4b4). I updated because the older version somehow stopped working. Now I get this error: DesktopRussell:~ srussell$ /Users/srussell/Desktop/napsyek; exit 0x6CD 0x202 342 Could not set configuration on device (0xE00002C5) IOKit common error 709(0x2C5) logout [Process completed] Any ideas? Guest Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Scott Have you made sure that no keyspan progs are running at all?
scottrussell Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 I've decided to abandon my efforts to get the apple remote to work with my Keyspan IR receiver. Why? Because I was able to remap my Keyspan remote to work BEAUTIFULLY with EyeTV's front row-like interface. Menu = launch front row (cmd-escape) Cycle = move back in front row menu (escape) Arrow_Up = move up in front row menu (UpArrow) Arrow_Down = move down in front row menu (DownArrow) Select = select front row menu choice (Return) Now I still have the other buttons available on Keyspan's digital media remote to do things like changing volume, fast-forwarding, etc. It's working very well for me.
bdimitrov Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I also wasted some time getting the keyspan IR receiver to recognize Apple Remote codes, until I realized that the problems were caused by noise in the receiver. Moving the receiver from a USB hub to a USB port on my g5 reduced the error rate to acceptable limits. Even so, errors occur frequently at the end of the code sequence for each key, and do occur (less frequently, with 2-3% rate) at the beginning. Fortunately the beginning and end of each codeword appears to be padding that does not really distinguish the codes for different keys. Removing this padding produces a reliably working REM file. I am attaching it to this post, and also inlining it below. I would appreciate if someone could point me to a matching .map file, since I haven't figured that out yet, and I can't seem to find the files that were uploaded to this site. bdimitrov Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 As a newbie, I wasn't shown the link to download attachments until I logged in for the second time. Go figure. Well, ignore my request to get the map, since I have it now. Thanks a lot!

MacGeek Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 (edited) Misread your first post for a second. Thought you wanted to put Lion on your PPC mini:D Edited May 30, 2011 by MacGeek
