I have a Laptop that gives STOP: 0x00000007 error in pci.sys when booting from a Windows XP CD!

 

Is it fscked?

The CD is fine, I was going to reinstall Windows on it as it had been restarting probably with the same error. I think there is a hardware problem? The Laptop is less than a year old, Memory is being checked now but appears fine. Sigh another Warranty return.

 

0x00000007: INVALID_SOFTWARE_INTERRUPT

It indicates a level not within the software range

I would say Hard Drive is an easy place to start, just try one from a different laptop.

Its a Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 PSAPPE with an IDE HD

Try disabling AHCI in BIOS.

Ahh try with one that has SP2 integrated I'm sure that will sort you out.

Can you integrate SP3 into Vanilla or do you have to integrate SP2, then SP3?

 

Edit nevermind just did SP2, then SP3 seems to have worked alright.

Its cumulative so you could go straight to SP3 if you wanted.

I have read that slipstreaming SP3 with an original or SP1 XP can cause problems but I dont know true that is. I use SP2 release for this anyway.
