Fun and games over on RichardDawkins.net forums this past few days with some insensitive implementation of censorship to enable Richard to comply with Charity Commission requirements.

This thread on the new forum guidelines attracted over 1000 posts in approx 2 hours. Several senior members, including former mods and admins, have taken their hats and joined the rebel forum here.

In response to this obviously sarcastic jibe by a forum member there:

*gasp* You said "sex!" Shame, shame! Hurry, call the Dawkins Thought Police quick!! He said "sex!" Sex is evil and should never, ever be discussed!

Richard Dawkins himself had this to say:

Oh my, what sparkling wit. There's a spanking new breakaway site for juveniles like you. Please go and suck your thumb there.

Oh dear! He's since tried to justify that, if not apologise for it. I suppose I could forgive him for his ignorance of forum etiquette as well as his ignorance of religion ;)

Just goes to show how sensitively fora need managing. People get very upset at insensitive handling. RDF is huge and must be quite a monster to manage.

Lol. I have one comment on this - it is a non-issue. It matters in no way what-so-ever. If you don't like the rules, go somewhere else.

Atheists aren't a grouping, so the title of this thread is a bit odd too.

I think you are over analysing the thread title.

Remember many thread titles are created to lure you in to read the thread, sometimes the content of the thread maybe completely different, if it was titled as anything else, I probably wouldn't have given this thread a second glance :)

Yes people on a forum have a disagreement and some decide to leave and use a different forum, happens all the time. Its not a reflection on Atheism.

Richard Dawkins's post is certainly not one of his best moments but it does go to show if you push someone hard enough they will not always respond in a polite reasoned manner no matter who they are.

I think the mistake that some opponents of Atheism make is that they take Richard Dawkins to be some sort of leader of Atheism (like the Pope or Archbishop) and then seize on any mistakes he makes as proof of flaws in Atheism.

Hey Mr serious face! :D The point of my posting was the magnitude of the ruptions and the insensitivity that caused it, being the interest.

Now that you mention it though... :D I'm finding it interesting to see the debate there between restrictions on free speech versus a moral standing.

Even more interesting is that the google ad for this topic is 'Muslim Singles a - Muslim marriage Service'. That could start a whole new debate!

I haven't seen any mention of Muslims for it to pick up on.....................

Did you see when a woman asked John McCain if Barack Obama was an Arab and he said "No he is a decent hard-working family man"

Does that mean Arabs are not decent hard-working family men?

Excellent - a schism! Usually this is only done by religions - nice to see atheism flying the flag :D

Atheism will eat itself?

Really mark? Really?

..and I was wondering who'd revived this thread! :D

A. Of course not but we can always dream ;) :p LOL

(Athism will eat itself) If it does, at least it will do it logically without resorting to belief in faeries and re-writing the rules.

Hahahahahhaa... (he says non detrimentally :D)

That's the best definition of atheism I've heard!... re-write the rules and base it on a fantastic belief. Perfect! ;)

:jaw:

I really didn't expect the logic of the junior school playground here... That really beggars belief. Nah nah, I can't hear you!

Re-write who's rules? Jehovah, Buddha, Jupiter, or some other deity?

*reels him in* ;)

Atheism is a modern day faith supposedly freeing you from preceding belief systems (where have we heard that before I wonder..), itself a step into the un-knowable. Is this not so? (you don't have to answer that! There be Dragons (no really!!!)

:D:D:D

I actually agree with the reasoning behind the bus campaign, it being to counteract the awful message "the Jesus Said ads running on London buses in June 2008. These ads displayed the URL of a website which stated that non-Christians "will be condemned to everlasting separation from God and then you spend all eternity in torment in hell". Very wrong.
