Fujitsu Siemens lifebook for life - amazing!

Hmm - it says 'like for like'. Does that mean they just replace your, say, 1.2Ghz executive laptop with a new 1.2ghz executive laptop? Sounds a bit confusing.

Edit: powdarrmonkey beat me to it.

Like For Like, if you buy top of range laptop, you get top of range laptop, if you buy bottom range, you get bottom range, but always from the new systems

It seems like a fanstastic idea, but they refused to tell me wether schools are eligible for this or not

Schools are eligible. I have been speaking to Misco and they tell me they are limiting it to 10 units per establishment - including schools!

all you need to do is register your purchase of a LIFEBOOK and associated 3 years warranty upgrade

I'm guessing you have to keep the warranty up-to-date. Probably not bad value for money in the end, but you're certainly not getting something for nothing. Rather similar to many mobile / broadband offers at the moment offering a "free" laptop with your mobile / broadband contract.

terms and conditions http://www.lifebook4lifeclaims.co.uk/terms_conditions.php

Only original Fujitsu Siemens accessories and upgrades should be installed during the period of ownership. The original Lifebook must be returned, in good working original order, with no damage or faults to the address provided in the claim pack sent to successful applicants. Returned Lifebooks will be examined before a replacement is issued.

This promotion is limited up to a maximum of 10 qualifying products purchased during the period of the promotion.

So you can only get 10? fair enough I suppose as thats 30 years.

I expect they're betting most people will lose or forget about the bit of paper you've got to keep.

 Isn't that you can have ten machines total at a time, they will all be replaced under the same conditions for life surely?

ahhh possibly. I interpreted that wrong. it mentions that also earlier in the T&C

however "Returned Lifebooks will be examined before a replacement is issued." sounds tricky....

...but GBP120 will cover your (sub-grand) laptop for 3 years accidental damage insurance, so forty quid a year sounds quite tempting!

And after 3 years, laptops will have reduced in price, so your 10% extra will buy a much better model.

My question would be what happens when the fujitsu-siemens joint venture comes to the end of its ten year life next year?

The current favourite is that there will not be a fujitsu-siemens, or at least Jim not as we know it.

The initial agreement was for 10 years, but if either party wishes to pull out, the other party has first refusal at the others' stake.

So, the company isn't going to vanish any time soon.
