Block MSN Messenger

I've been asked by SMT to block MSN Messenger in staff offices, which are often logged onto as local admins. Any ideas?

You could block the ports and/or URLs that MSN uses to login with via your web proxy, or redirect them using the local hosts file on the workstations if your web proxy doesn't allow it.

I did a deny all with the firewall rules and then only allowed what I wanted. Adding an allow on port 1863 for MSN on the IP range I use obviously

 

Doing a deny all also solves the problem of anything new emerging and it not being blocked already.
