ICTDirect_Joe Posted September 22 Posted September 22 https://googlebook.google/intl/en_uk/ They look nice, they looks like they interact with Android Phone's well, they look powerful, they look like they run a pretty good desktop android operating system. They LOOK like a proper rival to the Macbook Neo, but they also look expensive... Plus they're categorically not replacing Chromebooks, so no need to worry about Chrome OS vanishing as the new Aluminium OS is introduced. 1
Danp Posted September 22 Posted September 22 I wonder how long it will be before I have members of SLT telling me they need one of these... 1
jthompson Posted September 29 Posted September 29 I'm pretty sure that the writing is on the wall for ChromeOS. They want it gone by 2034 https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/16634428 Quote Since 2011, we’ve continued to improve ChromeOS to deliver secure, fast, and feature-rich Chromebook experiences for millions of students, teachers, and businesses across the globe. We recently launched Googlebooks—a new line of devices built to bring greater versatility, enhanced performance, and helpful capabilities, built for Gemini Intelligence. To power these new experiences, we are introducing Googlebook OS, a new operating system that brings together the best of ChromeOS and the Android tech stack. This technical evolution..... ... ChromeOS devices will continue to receive regular updates and security patches through mid-2034. For qualifying devices purchased today whose 10-year support lifecycle extends beyond 2034, Google is committed to supporting your transition to Googlebook OS, with many devices offering direct migration paths. Google clearly want to replace ChromeOS and Chromebooks with GooglebookOS and Googlebooks. The initial launch devices will likely be MacBook-adjacent premium things. Meh. Hopefully the 'good enough' affordable devices for schools will still be worthwhile putting to market, coming once there are some management tools in place. 1
KK20 Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Look nice, some nice ideas with phone to screen. HOW MUCH? No thank you, perhaps a half price refurb in six months.
DrCheese Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Long as they *keep* the management that we get with ChromeOS currently (Quick speed management) & don't copy Intune (SLOW) then I'm happy with whatever. It's mildly annoying they feel the need to reinvent the wheel however.
