synaesthesia Posted August 25 Posted August 25 Odd issue I'm having that I hope someone can shed some light on, hopefully just a me issue! Had a change of VLANS and IP structures, and Smoothwall now needs to divvy out DHCP for 2 scopes. Scope is set up and enabled in DHCP with the correct IP details, range, subnets etc. Clients will not pick up an address. IP helper is correct on switches - points to the relevant interface of Smoothwall (in this case a VLAN on a trunk port) Only thing that sticks out to me is that the interface does not show in the DHCP Global settings. The other interface (guest wifi) as shown in the pic below is ticked and available but no other interfaces are available here. Interface has an IP, is pingable, and is enabled. Am I missing something daft? The smoothwall KB doesn't even reference the Interfaces section in global settings!
synaesthesia Posted August 25 Author Posted August 25 Nothing in firewall rules or Smoothwall Access refers to DHCP
Joeloman Posted August 25 Posted August 25 You also need to enter IP addresses under Interfaces. FYI: Newport has a new way to enter DHCP if I remember correctly.

DHCP log when service is restarted only shows the one interface listening. Have just rebooted the box too, to no avail Absolutely no difference I can see between the working and non-working interfaces.
Joeloman Posted August 25 Posted August 25 (edited) My advice is to check with support, if they can fix it via the console. Then it depends on your setup if it's time to switch to Newport listen to support regarding that too. I haven't run the latest released version with DHCP but I have tested various Betas with DHCP and you have significantly better features in the new one. Edited August 25 by Joeloman
synaesthesia Posted August 25 Author Posted August 25 Newport isn't close to production status so that's a definite no-go. Obviously will try support but we all know how long that can take!
synaesthesia Posted August 25 Author Posted August 25 All now resolved. Fair play to Smoothwall, they were on that and sorted within half an hour of putting a request in. Issue was relating to stale/old interfaces, they were removed historically but remained in the background, taking up the pool of up to 20 interfaces "visible". They were able to remote in, clear that history and we're now up and running Apparently that is indeed resolved in Newport which isn't fully out in the wild yet but making it's way there. 2
tom_newton Posted August 26 Posted August 26 Yes, Newport is now out with quite a few customers - no cluster support just yet, but other than that it is there. Hopefully you can upgrade soon!
