SteveMC Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Just a heads up for anyone in the following situation: 1) XP SP3 machines on their domain, 2) Set your user accounts so that the user must change their password at logon, 3) User has a roaming (mandatory or not, doesn't matter) profile configured The user won't get their profile, - they'll get a local one instead, and that will keep happening until they restart the machine. MS apparently fixed the bug in Vista (see KB 941797) but say nothing about XP. Steve
powdarrmonkey Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 No, and they don't confirm the bug in XP either in that article, is this an official problem or just one that you've been having?
SteveMC Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 No, and they don't confirm the bug in XP either in that article, is this an official problem or just one that you've been having? It's something I ran into this afternoon, - I've just confirmed it with a couple of other people (including DMcCoy, who'll probably be along in a moment!). Could be a fairly major issue for schools :| Steve
DMcCoy Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Yes, it's well and truely broken I have mandatory, logout if no profile is available already turned on and it ignored everything and just logged in with the default profile. Even a relog doesn't fix it, only a reboot

DMcCoy Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 When you try to log on to a Windows XP SP3-based computer by using a roaming profile, the roaming profile cannot load.
mseaney Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Have been suffering with this problem for several days!! This morning, after viewing endless userenv.logs and searching the net, I have come across a hotfix from Microsoft. I'm just downloading it. Checkout the link below:- When you try to log on to a Windows XP SP3-based computer by using a roaming profile, the roaming profile cannot load. Michael.
mseaney Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 The hotfix certainly fixed the problem. I have now implemented this in to our build.
