qeadmin Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Hi Has anyone else experienced issues with schoolcomms being blocked by chrome? Schoolcomms support is blaming Google and suggesting using another browser or speak to schools admin (myself). Great idea when staff use Chromebooks being a 1:1 school. On the few windows devices we have we have policies to prevent Edge from being used so that's not a work around either. Problem started Friday afternoon Chrome reports the site as being insecure and blocks app.schoolcomms.com Added URL exception in Google Blocked URL's section but not made a difference yet. I may have missed the obvious so thought I would post on here to see if others have had the same issue and the resolution. Thanks Stu
David44 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 We don't use Schoolcomms but for what it is worth, we get the same error message when browsing to https://app.schoolcomms.com/ We are similar to you, we use Chromebooks and some PCs. The error appears on both. If I use an unmanaged browser (still Chrome), I can get to the site. I'm not sure what that tells you, other than it isn't just you.
qeadmin Posted April 28 Author Posted April 28 thanks for trying that least we know its not in our config then as such. I have locked everything down to force managed browser here so need to make a few changes so finance can use it for now. Roll on when we can move away from schoolcomms and use a different system.
BadgerPatrol Posted April 28 Posted April 28 (edited) From a quick investigation, it appears that the SafeSitesFilterBehavior policy being enabled is what is triggering the block - disabling that policy, or adding schoolcomms.com to the URLAllowlist policy (rather than a URLBlocklist exception edit - shows how long it's been since I actually looked in Google Admin, seeing as the Blocked URL exceptions is targeting the URLAllowlist policy) appears to get it working. qeadmin Posted April 28 Author Posted April 28 Thanks for the reply I had been trying various settings on the main route ou. What I did not notice is at some point in time inheritance has been disabled so not applying to my staff OU. that has finance happy again
EssentialRug Posted April 29 Posted April 29 (edited) Same issue here. Didn't seem to be able to get a wildcard working, so even though we made the exception for https://app.schoolcomms.com and https://app.schoolcomms.com/login we then couldn't navigate to any of the sub pages such as https://app.schoolcomms.com/management without explicitly adding that. How did you manage to get around that? Edited April 29 by EssentialRug
pickman Posted May 1 Posted May 1 YEs I have too schools with the same issue and they are both on schools Broadband. will try the above
qeadmin Posted May 1 Author Posted May 1 schoolcomms support just says use a different browser. Since making the change and actually linking the change to the OU group its working fine I just have this all under the user and browsers settings. Its working but not sure which one actually fixed it in the first place. and added here too - http allowlist and for good measure allow insecure content on these sites
Lee.Owen Posted May 5 Posted May 5 I've reached out to ParentPay Group and got a response Basically blaming google for an update Quote April 2026 Chrome 147 update, Google introduced a 'strict site integrity' check which is causing the error. We are aware that some customers may be experiencing difficulty accessing the Schoolcomms website when using Google Chrome. There has been a change over the weekend to Google Workspace and app.schoolcomms.com is now being blocked. Unfortunately we are not able to provide instructions for allowing the site but this needs to be updated within the Google Workspace.
SIMS_Customer_Support Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Thanks for flagging this. We’re aware some schools have experienced browser-related issues following recent Chrome updates. The team is investigating and working directly with affected schools to resolve this as quickly as possible. If anyone is still experiencing issues, please log a support ticket with details of browser version/device setup so the team can look into it directly. Best regards, ParentPay Group
