Sign In App - Reliability/Just Me?

Okay, it upset me far too much today (off when I came in) so it's getting a bit of attention now.

 

- Ipad now connects via wifi, printer is cabled in. Same VLAN, segregated from the "real" LAN completely, goes straight out.

- Official apple cable going into official apple charger going into official Southern Electric electricity.

 

Further mischief means another ipad might be worth a go, but that's another thing (adapter salad) eliminated at least.

I did have one ropey iPad a while ago, seems otherwise fine but just kept being a twonk with the MDM and SIA. Not sure if they were mutually exclusive. Older one, 9th gen I think. Swapped it out with another one and it didn't drop a beat. I'm sure I tried factory resets and everything on it to no avail, and the software versions were identical so it did confuse the life out of me. Just accepted it was Another Apple Thing.

 

Android version in open beta now though...

When we were just getting ours set up, they were a bit temperamental, and had a habit of slipping to "not charging" mode if the cables weren't right. Had to be good quality lightning cables, and had to be kept under 3m. And we had to use official Apple charging plugs, else we got a buzz in the system (I forget now whether it was audible, screen wobble, or both, but there was *a thing*).

Yes - "twonk" is the word. It is surely twonking it. I can defo get a newer one in if I need to. What's the generation you've got in place that twonks less btw? I just found JRA's word of the week!

Good to know this also cheers. Yep genuine Apple (2M) cable en route for the reception setup. Had it in the office on a charger on the wifi overnight and it's still on this morning, still aok, happily wifi linked to the cabled-in printer in reception and (as I watched it live on the CCTV) just printed a badge out.

 

Will update with the thrills and spills as I go.

The others are identical! Well, with the exception of the new one we bought with our first SIA install which is a 10th gen.

Right then, little bit of cautious optimism.

 

Plugged that all in, no more adapters, legit Apple cable and charger and ipad (wifi) and printer (cabled) on their own VLAN just for them.

 

Just hit day 5 of ZERO issues.

 

I can guarantee that'll all explode hourly now I've posted that, but just in case it doesn't, think this may be the solution!

With recent re-write of Sign-in app, as our charity is starting the journey of installation soon, I'm seeking feedback of how things are since that rewrite. Keen to hear positives with the rebuilt version, anything you miss from the old. Generally reliability - is it the same, better or worse?

It's been pretty rock-solid tbh since my last post in May. Had to re-do the networking when a load of builders came in and just started chopping random cables in the ceiling for no reason (yes really) but that's nothing to do with SignInApp. Happy with it tbh and looking to move forward with it this year.

Still rock here - only real problem I have with it is lack of resiliency on GPS, so anyone with the mobile app using it to auto sign in/out or use reminders keeps getting flagged randomly as leaving site during the day. Poor signal area so whenever GPS signal drops it reverts back to their last location - usually home.

Could be easily fixable I think just by making the app wait X minutes before thinking yeah, I'm outside the geofence.

They have made changes changes to the app and dumbed it down a bit to me in a few ways, but's IT being fussy as we know what it was like before.

 

Compared to Inventry - there is NO contest.

 

I do hope however this is NOT the start of their downfall (taking on too many customers and not increasing support resources to match) exactly like what happened with Inventry.

We get the same problem with auto sign in and we're in a good signal area.

Hopefully not. My suggestion has gone in as a feature request (via their AI agent). Support has still been reasonably quick and it's easy to get to a human if needed so fingers crossed it stays that way. We see too many falling down that same trap.

Long as they don't outsource their support to the other side of the globe like Inventry - Or get bought up by someone like TES then they'll be ok....

Every time...... Got a great product, works well.  Sell to TES, things go to 💩
