Quizlet - issues due to ads being blocked apparently!

Students are today getting a message which states:

 

Please allow ads on our site
Our site is supported by ads. Please consider allowing ads on this site so that we can continue to provide quality content. Thank you for your support.
Notice: Your school’s security settings may block the site. Please ask your IT department to allow html-load.com.
Support: [email protected]

 

I have ensured for a test user that html-load.com is accessible and Quizlet still gives the above warning.

 

Any ideas?

It does look like by unfiltering html-load.com for students it allows the site to function.

 

Any risk to allowing this site?

Lots of sites use hlml-load.com.  Its home page states this:

 

The fast and easy way to secure web resources

Protect your web assets with cutting-edge real-time obfuscation. Ensure your JavaScript, CSS, and HTML are secure from unauthorized access, while delivering seamless performance for your users.

 

Instinctively, I don't like it because its deliberately deceptive, but blocking it does seem to break things.  I still ad and tracker block fairly aggressively and I don't think we show any ads on Quizlet pages even when allowing it.

Hi there, I would like to provide some context.

html-load.com, html-load.cc, content-loader.com, as well as other various domains are owned by an Anti Ad-Block service called Ad-Shield.

 

How they work is when a website attempts to load ads and fails, Ad-Shield kicks in and attempts to "recover" it by loading in advertisements via the domains above.

However, when it fails, it will put up the anti ad-block warning. 

I do not like how deceptive their practices are, as these domains "sound" important but they are used solely to "restore" ads.
Plus, they do not make it clear that they are an anti ad-block wall and that it's by Ad Shield
Instead, they simply tell you that you need to whitelist their "important" domain.

In their blog, they basically admit they don't care about your network policies. As they say that most ad-blocker users are "unaware" because IT deployed it, and that users are actually fine with and dont mind ads. Directly going against the wishes of the IT Administrator by loading back in ads using their domains.

We've found it is generally pretty hard to thread the needle of "block ads" and "avoid ad blocker detection" unfortunately.

Did you get anywhere with this?  Not using smoothwall but having the same issue.
