Hi folks,

Does anyone know how to track file deletions in Teams?

I’ve tracked whole Teams deletions in the past using Purview, and having checked there it does list “deleted file” as an activity that can be reported on, in turn under File and page activities. I have run a report on this and got no data, but I have a vague feeling that you can’t report on recent activities (the file deletion was likely around 9:30-10am today). This is trying to track which student deleted a file, but it’s no longer in the SharePoint’s recycle bin so I suspect the student knew enough to restore it back.

Thanks

This is proving to be quite the tortuous epic with Microsoft Support! As proof of concept, I deleted a file from a team I own, ran the Purview audit report, and the deletion doesn’t show. I’ve gone back and forth with Microsoft Support, who are now saying it can take up to 48 hours for this to show in an audit report. A week later, it still doesn’t show in the report. I see a bunch of OneDrive deletions, which looks to be behind the scene stuff, and also one file deletion from a class team, but not my file. Microsoft are now referring me to unified support, which I think is there way of saying “we have no idea!”.
