Good morning all,

It seems like we have a specific problem with our Mac devices playing ads that cannot be skipped, my suspicion is that they are not being subjected to the same filtering and SafeSearch criteria as the Windows devices even though they are all domain joined and on the same network as the Windows devices.

Have asked LGfL about this as our ISP because unless the Macs are bypassing them somehow I cannot see what the difference would be, however, they say:
"Macs can behave differently with YouTube as Apple applies stricter privacy and tracking controls at OS and browser level, which affects how ads are served and filtered compared to Windows devices. This is why the behaviour is only being seen on Macs and not elsewhere on the network."

They add there is nothing further they can do.

Does that ring true? Ideally we wouldn't want students seeing ads at all on the Macs, let alone inappropriate ones that cannot be skipped.

Thanks

Apple tries to make life difficult for ad trackers across its platforms. If YouTube doesn't establish what you might like and serve your appropriate adverts (by tracking you) then you get default ads. Lots of which are terrible.

I assume you've limited YouTube content to age appropriate levels via the tools available? That might limit the type of ads you see.

I don't think there's an option to turn off all advertising.

Yes it does.

The same amount of granular control can’t be exercised on Apple devices because decryption breaks them and so there’s no way to get into the traffic detail in the same way. Presumably, you have Googletagmanger and Doubleclick blocked either specifically or the ad block category applied?

I've got a Mac, ill test when im working tomorrow. What are you seeing exactly and I'll try to replicate. Chances are we can do very little, but id rather see first and confirm after. If you dm me your case I can reference it.
