Brother Embroidery Machine

A bit of a shot in the dark here, but does anyone have a Brother Embroidery machine on their Wi-Fi? We've got an F540E which only has Wi-Fi in it, no Bluetooth. It's connected via an app on an iPad. When connecting it to the iPad via a hotspot it works. If I put the sewing machine and iPad on the school's network (same VLAN as each other) the sewing machine insists it's not connected to the Internet. My firewall logs and netsweeper logs aren't showing anything being blocked. I can't find any documentation around any domains etc. it needs access to. Anyone got any ideas please?

I had handed in my notice at my last place of work, and the caretaker wanted a Ring doorbell set up on the school network so that he could be alerted to callers to the school front door out of hours.

 

I couldn't get it to work because I had no way to add it to our AD/Group Policy, so I couldn't get it to authenticate. I tried to add an exception for the doorbell's MAC address, but I had no success.

 

The incoming network manager told me after I left that he took the doorbell home and added it to his home network. He said that when he brought it back into school, because it had been on the Internet and had been "activated", it now worked on the school network without an issue.

 

I cannot vouch for the truth of what he said.

Sadly not the case here. On my hotspot (effectively off site) they talk and are activated, chuck them back on the Wi-Fi and the sewing machine is having none of it........

In case anyone ever has this issue, the resoluion is to connect the machine to the filteried network such that it is neither decrypted, nor has "host is an IP address" blocked.
