Cricut design and cutters arrrghh!

Hey everyone,

 

We've hit a pretty annoying roadblock here, and I'm hoping some of you cutting/plotting experts can help!

 

Apparently, a bunch of departments decided to splurge on Cricut machines. The software absolutely refuses to play nice with our domain environment so we can't install it.

 

The good news is the design part is covered: we're using Canva Pro and can export everything as a clean .SVG file.

 

The huge problem is finding something that just acts as a simple app that can read that SVG and send the job straight to the cutter. 

 

We already have Inkscape and Techsoft 2D Design installed, but I'm really looking for something simpler and more reliable for just job sending.

 

To make things even more "Sod's Law," the three Cricuts we own are all different models. So, ideally, I need a device-agnostic (or at least less device-specific) solution that can bypass the whole Cricut ecosystem entirely.

 

What are you guys using to send jobs to your cutters natively without the manufacturer's bloatware? Any recommendations for an SVG-to-Cutter app would be a lifesaver!

 

EDIT: i should add... i'm totally new to cutter/plotters so i might be approaching this totally wrong, so please kick me into the right direction if that's the case.

Im afraid you have to use the their software to send the designs to the device.

Have you tried logging on as the Local Administrator and installing the software that way?

What error message do you get when you try to install it - any screenshots?

If machine uses a none standard control protocol i.e. non standard control code (i.e. not gcode) that many CAD software packages support i.e. Fusion. Then you are limited

Oooft. We have Cricut cutters and they are hard work. We use PDQ Deploy to install it but, in our experience, whenever they have a fairly minor update the software checks in and simply stops working until the latest version is installed.

This is what we did to get the Cricut software working on our network. Don't know if this will help you. It is a manual install but we only have one machine so far, so not a problem.

 

Visit https://design.cricut.com and download the software for your machine (in our case a Cricut Maker 4)

 

Run the installer and the software will install to: %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Programs\Cricut Design Space

 

Move the Cricut Design Space folder to C:\Program Files, so it is located at: C:\Program Files\Cricut Design Space

 

Create a program Shortcut to c:\program files\cricut design space\cricut design space.exe and place it wherever it needs to be to allow users to access it.

 

The program needs to access cricut.com and it can't handle authentication so if you have an authenticating proxy you'll need to provide an exception for that. We added it to Authentication Exceptions group on Smoothwall. We also added it to No SSL Inspection policy as well for good measure.

 

It works OK. Bit of a hassle to install but it is working and they're happy with it.

We also have PDQ so might give that a go. Anything i need to know with regards to PDQ?

 

did you address it installing in app data?
