SIMS roll over- Can it be done today, ie on an inset

As above

Have this argument every year as so many systems sync from SIMS it delays everything

Surely SIMS can roll now as long as the inset days, today and 2nd and set as such (whatever SIMS terminology is, I am not MIS side of IT)

Thanks

I had a data team stone wall me for years about this until there was an issue and nothing was ready and then we could magicly roll over a week before the new term started.

From memory it will roll over on the first day of the academic year, whatever that has been set to (it should include inset days). However, there was longstanding guidance that Year 7s should be admitted on the day they turn up so that the admission numbers were sequential. You can admit them earlier but would then have to delete them, losing information on admissions and creating gaps in the record.

Interesting question, because I've wondered the same thing. Our current data team are super helpful, so that's not an issue anymore. It's the apps that take a day or two to sync up, so nothing's ready for the first day of term. So I'm wondering what's stopping us from rolling forward at say the start of this week? (Term starts for students on Thurs)

Hi @Gongalong

Are you enquiring for a primary or secondary school?

Here is some information to assist you in completing the promotions in SIMS for a secondary school; EOYSecDetailed.pdfpages 43 - 48 for Pastoral promotions and pages 55 - 63 for Academic promotions.

If you need me to send you the details for a primary school please do let me know.

Many thanks

I don't use SIMS or get involved with MIS's directly these days anymore but historically we always set up 1st September to 31st August as the school year (because it is!) and then enrolled students as and when they should be in.

So if they're due in on the 3rd, as 1st and 2nd are inset days, you enroll them on the 1st as without the INSET days being where they are, they'd be enrolled.

Isn't that how everyone is supposed to do it?!
