amfony Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Hi Guys, Very simply (and you might notice i have a wireless implementation thread in the networks section) im thinking how hard would it be to setup a "warehouse style" handhelp computing where staff members (on supervision duty for example) could call up studentDB, intranet etc etc. Now all this is can be achieved with a WLAN/Laptop combination but i think handheld like the Motorola Symbol is more attractive as far as usage? In addition the handhelds i so far have looked at can also include Push to Talk phone services - a mobile combintation which is not to shabby. Anyone got a system like this working? Really more curiosity then anything else. Please comment as you wish. Cheers, Amfony
powdarrmonkey Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 We don't have anything so elaborate, but we do issue some staff who don't have a PC in their form rooms with an HP PDA. Since we use Facility ePortal, they then take the register through the web. There's no reason why they can't do other things as well, like calling up student details etc. So you could have a look at doing something similar, like issuing five for the staff on duty during break.
beeswax Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 We issue all our PE staff with mobile phones configured to take registers via Bromcom.
LeMarchand Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 This is about the most powerful handheld that I'd trust any of the staff with: http://www.gameguru.in/images/etch-a-sketch.jpg
gregedwardseducator Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 We use QuickTalk for this. It's by a company called Radicomm and it runs over the Symbol/Motorola handheld devices you were talking about.
