Swapping HP AC Adaptors

Hey all, stupid mistake I know but was fixing an HP Compaq 6720s and now cannot tell the adaptors apart - I have a HP Compaq Preario V6642EM laptop. It states that the adaptors should only be used for HP and Compaq laptops so I assume there's no trouble in using either, but just want confirmation. They appear to share the same specs e.g. 65watts etc. Just to be safe I looked up HP's partsurfer as both adaptors have different "replace with hp spare" numbers but the site gave me a parts number that matches neither so I can't determine it that way. As long as the voltage is the same, the PSU has the same or higher Wattage rating, and the connectors fit, it'll work.

 

Wattage may be expressed as Amps, which again needs to be the same or higher.

 

ie if the PSUs are 12V 65W they could be marked 12V 5.5A and be exactly the same (OK, I know...)

Cheers for that Andrew C, they both share the same 5a/250v so we seem good to go

Um no, that's the input voltage and current. You need to check the output.

If you have some of the newer hps they now come with a standardized charger plug. These are adaptive supplies which can be used on any hp laptop. The laptop will draw power at up to the maximum rate of the adapter. With a more power hungry laptop this may mean that it is only able to charge the laptop or run it without charging if it is on. It will still work though just at the reduced functional level.
