SIMS Crashing for One User Only When Completing Register - Deadlock

Recommended Posts

Good Morning,

Recently, one of our users has an error every time they press Save on their register in SIMS. They get an error saying "Transaction (Process ID 214) was deadlocked on resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction : System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException" but the Process ID number can change in the message. Annoyingly, even after a fresh rebuild of the PC they are using, they still get the same error. However, the error only occurs on this one PC - if the user moves to another PC, it works fine.

Has anyone had this issue before? Any help greatly appreciated!

With thanks

Joe

Timeout settings for in sims/connect ini on that one machine?

Thank you for your suggestion - I've had a look at this and it is the same on the working machine.

Long shot - layer 1/2 network problems?  Run wireshark to get a capture and if there is loads of black or red on the screen bad things are happening.  If there is nothing quite that obvious,m compare the captures between the two systems and look for notable  differences (if you are not experienced in wireshark - just go a bit Neo and look for glaring similarities/differences inthe patterns it makes on the screen when you quickly scroll through them!)

Was a recent issue with deadlocks occurring, patch to resolve was 30352.

if you are on spring though I think the patch is included in the release but may be worth a try.

Thread on here regarding a different issue but toward the end of the thread it ended up being about the deadlock issues.

If you've reimaged the machine then that is quite strange as that should rule out anything on the actual PC.

What about other SIMS users on that same PC?

Thank you for responding! I have asked if other teachers can use that PC but the room isn't in use until Monday.

Thank you psydii - I will take a look at that. The connection does go through a phone which limits the speed! It is a technology room as well so putting it down to Layer 1/2 is worth looking at - could be cable damage! I've had a little bit of experiencing with Wireshark when testing issues with Smoothwall so will take a look on this device as well.

Thank you Haci - I will take a look at this thread now! We had to start hosting SIMS and have done since February but SIMS has been working until relatively recently on this PC.
