gazskeltz Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Hi all, Wonder if anyone could help here. We have a student (probably tip of the iceberg stuff) who has achieved a Grade 8 in 'Rock and Pop' QAN 6003959X. This was achieved outside of school. I've had a play with our friendly 4Matrix system and if I shoehorn this result in, 4Matrix slots the result into bucket 3 (Other) part of the Progress 8 Calculations. A grade 8 pass is worth 66 points according to the QAN code. So, If we were to add these results to the student's results data in school , would they count in the school's performance measures? In this case, the student's P8 score went up from +0.41 to +0.41, displacing PE A grade in the process because this was better. Before staff get over excited and start looking for multi instrumentalists in our cohort, I wanted to check that it was worth the effort for us. Thanks in advance Regards Gary
bobsmith Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 All the stuff I've read says they count. There's a brief mention here: AQA | Performance tables | Key Stage 4 changes to performance tables | Attainment 8
gazskeltz Posted March 21, 2016 Author Posted March 21, 2016 Thanks Bob, I could see them in the document you mentioned. I just wanted to check that 'outside' awards would count on our figures for Progress 8 if we add them in August or Tables Checking time. Does this sound reasonable to you? (or anyone else...) Regards Gary
Seb1780 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 It is my belief that they will count in the tables too; hence we are currently scrabbling around trying to find out who has what.
gazskeltz Posted March 21, 2016 Author Posted March 21, 2016 Thanks everyone, Scrabble around we will! Regards Gary

Ecclesbury Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 So am I right in saying that these can be crow barred in to the performance tables data at checking time? Presumably you just have to have a copy of the certificate as 'evidence?'
garbage46 Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 My understanding is that they just appear in the performance tables. I think the music teacher/examiner/grader must be officially registered with an official examinations body. I haven't considered how you could/would display graded music results alongside GCSE results in the summer, or even if you would bother. Possibly only be beneficial at that early stage to students wanting to enrol on a further education music related course.
gazskeltz Posted March 24, 2016 Author Posted March 24, 2016 Hi, The thinking here is that anything that could contribute to P8 is worth having If we can shoehorn or crowbar it in. These exams are taken offsite, usually privately, by the student. That's why I'm hoping we can add them at Data Checking time. We have 4Matrix and I've tested with a Grade 6 Rock & Pop award which gets put into the 'Other' bucket in P8, In this particular case, the student's P8 went up a little bit and the award trumped his A in PE. Regards Gary
