Hi does anyone know where I can get KS2 English sub-level data from for a school I work with (but not in) - when I worked in school we used to calculate according to test results and level thresholds or download from Key2Success/FFT. Th school advise that this is not available from FFT only the reading sub-level, which I know will be the basis for P8 calcs as of next year - in the meantime I'd still like the English data - any ideas?

The school should have Writing Teacher Assessment levels? These will be whole levels but can be converted to a fine points score (5 = 33.00, 4 = 27.00 etc).

(Writing Fine Score + Reading Fine Score) / 2 = English Fine Score

English Fine Score / 6 = English Fine Level

Convert English Fine Level to sub level.

I do not think there is any clear conversion guidance, but you could use something like this:

x.0 to x.333 = c sub level

x.34 to x.667 = b sub level

x.67 to x.999 = a sub level

Maybe someone out there has a better method?

Current year 11 have an overall english test score - this can be used with the threshold boundaries to convert to a fine points score - then to a differentiated level - then to a sub level.

Quick question. Does anyone import their KS2 data into 4Matrix? Is Test Level the same as the ENGLEV column on the KS2 Key to Success CSV file? I ask as I currently have KS2 sublevels in there and Key to Success shows whole levels! There's a separate one for TA as well but I think that's the ENGLEVTA column.

Of course, trying to import the CTF file fails as SIMS doesn't recognise it!

rename the ctf and replace CTF with KS2 and it should import fine.

When I used 4Matrix I always imported KS2 - you can't get VA, Levels of Progress or even Progress 8 and other cool stuff without it.

I think 4matrix uses fine levels (as does SISRA) - this is probably cos the DfE uses fine levels to produce attainment 8 estimates.

I was browsing a document which made no mention of fine levels so I converted everything to whole test level using the data from Key to Success alongside whole TA level. Now I've discovered the RAISEOnline library and the technical document which says to use fine levels. I'm going to stick it in the fine score field in 4Matrix to see what it does.

I've mapped the following so far from K2S to 4Matrix:

ENGLEV - English Test Level

ENGLEVTA - English TA

MATLEV - Maths Test Level

MATLEVTA - Maths TA

SCILEVTA - Science TA (no test available)

FFT gives fine points scores for reading, writing and maths in their pupil export. When importing into 4Matrix it takes the readingfps as the English fps and rejects the writing as no field to map against - this might be due how my predecessor set up 4Matrix, only a few weeks in the school. Got round this for current Year 11 (as reading only used for current Y10) by calculating (r+w)/2 and putting under the same heading as reading in the FFT export before importing into 4Matrix.
