DataMan Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 We are currently working on our curriculum model for our Year 9's ahead of Options in February/March. Based on what I have read I want to make sure I have a 'clear' understanding of what the headline figures will be for this year group. Currently the government look at: 5A*-C including English and Maths 3LOP in English 3LOP in Maths For our current Year 9's what will we be reported in the Performance Tables for the Class of 2016? My understanding is: Progress 8 Attainment 8 % A*-C in English and Maths % A*-C in 5 Ebacc subjects Our current suggested options for Year 9 are: 1&2 (Core) English Language & English Literature 3 (Core) Maths 4&5 (Core) Double Science (Top sets x2 Triple Science) 6 (Option) 1 of French, Geography, History or Spanish 7 (Core) RE 8&9 (Options) 2 of Art, Business, Drama, Food, Frenh, Geography, Health, History, ICT, Media, Music, PE, Resistant Materials, Textiles Will Progress 8 be the key measure with the % A*-C in English and Maths and in 5 Ebacc subjects just an informative measure for parents? Am just concerned as I don't want to direct students down the wrong route.
tombry Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 won't know for sure till the end of February - which doesn't help us either, as our options evening is tomorrow night. Thankfully all the confusing English stuff won't be until 2017, at least in 2016 everyone's English will count double. I'm trying to look at our Y9s, but am having a hell of a time getting the progress 8 measure to work in assman - can handle the maths, english, and best 3 from the EBacc range, it's just getting those last 3 without counting ones that were counted in EBacc range - from the lack of replies to my post in the MIS forum, I'm guessing not many others have a solution either.
NormalDistribution Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 what is x2 triple science? Have they changed the rules? I still thought you need entries in 3x triple science to count in the ebacc measure.

Ecclesbury Posted January 24, 2014 Author Posted January 24, 2014 Unless the DfE change their minds they are currently proposing that the Progress 8 will be the key measure. The current proposal is that the floor benchmark will be -0.5 (half a grade below expected no average). Baring in mind that with Progress & Attainment 8 measures the 3 ebacc subjects could be all science, or 3 languages for example your curriculum offer looks like it will be perfectly fine for these measures. However, I suspect this is pretty standard across many schools. Since the eBacc % will not be benchmarked and only really published out of interest I think (hope!) that most schools will not impose it on their curriculum. If it helps our options model is currently pretty much identical to yours with the only exception that our students have to take 1 language. The only measure your offer will not guarantee is the eBacc since students have the option of not doing a language and/or History & Geography.
