Windows 11 Installation

Hi Have created Win 11 image with software installed using Virtual Box and Hirens PE. Then I have used Any Burn to insert the .wim file into windows and then burn the image to bootable USB.

 

When installing the image on a device, it installs Windows all the way through to 100% then fails when trying to reboot. I either get Windows 11 Installation failed with no further details, or this error below, depending on if it is UEFI or Legacy settings in BIOS, but either way, it will not reboot to configure the installation, any Suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Is this image for multiple different PC models or a single one?

 

We generally order our PCs in large enough quantities where we can get by with just a dozen images or so. I just create a Windows installation on a given PC model, configure it the way I want, they run Sysprep with the shutdown option. I then clone it for later distribution. Lately I've just used Clonezilla to back up the image to one of my file servers. Then when deploying Desktop PCs I just boot them up with a Clonezilla flash drive and copy the image to the PC then start it up.

 

When we have PCs that are easy to access the drives (like laptops) we have a sixteen slot imager that we can duplicate drives on (again using the Sysprepped image).

 

These days with NVMe SSDs creating a new Windows installation is so quick I'll do that instead of trying to update an older one.

Thanks for your reply. I want to image multiple pc's with this. I can give Clonezilla ago, I have the image I created with Virtual box. I assume I can use that as has all software and config I require on it?

These all seem quite esoteric and complex solutions to imaging. Have you looked at MDT? I used to use FOG, the server died, so I bought a dedicated box and set up MDT on it. Never looked back. So much less faff!

Tell me about it, however due to restrictions at work, this is our only option, I did put MDT and Fog forward however this is where I'm at. I am hopeful this way will work.

I guess the reason we use Clonezilla with pre-configured images is we can go from power on to startup in about five minutes. I'm sure there are many ways to accomplish the same thing, but when we are dealing with pallet loads of PCs this seems to work OK for us.

 

Keep in mind we are a rural school district that cannot attract properly trained and experienced staff. We do tinker when we have time, but we only have four technicians and seven office staff for about two dozen schools, so those times are rare.

Someday I wouldn't mind looking into MDT (I think I used to use it back in the Windows XP days) but we don't have DHCP on our network, and once I set up a Clonezilla server to store my images on that has worked well for the past few years.
