KK20 Posted February 26, 2025 Posted February 26, 2025 Ok, so our music department needs to run ABRSM proctored exams. https://www.abrsm.org/en-gb/music-theory/guidance with requirements https://helpdesk.psionline.com/hc/en-gb/articles/4409608794260-PSI-secure-browser-System-Requirements Looking at their "unsupported" column we are a no-go on both the firewall and the education windows. I am sure it works but if there is a problem with the exam then guess who will get blamed. From the requirements, I am effectively being asked to give students a plain, vanilla, unmonitored (at least by the school) home/professional laptop with unfiltered internet access via a WIFI dongle. We cant use our chromebooks either. For the time being I have bounced this up the line for authorisation but what I can see me needing to do is blank some laptops and drive them through the filtered/firewalled guest WIFI anyway and hope the filters/firewall is happy - this and write a big disclaimer saying that this is unsupported so SLT can authorise it. Any experience with ABRSM? I used PSI plugin years ago with ECDL and it had no issues for us back then.
Julian Posted February 26, 2025 Posted February 26, 2025 Given that as a school you have statutory obligations for "Safeguarding" and "Prevent" duties. Asking for unfiltered school internet access in a UK school is simple not legal. I would guess that some sites need to be unblocked, and someone is being lazy about specifying exactly what is requied. 1
3s-gtech Posted February 26, 2025 Posted February 26, 2025 "Your camera must be capable of a 360-degree scan of the test room" No worries will get right on that one "Please take your test in a setting without a corporate firewall." Get in the sea. 2
jmak Posted February 26, 2025 Posted February 26, 2025 Sounds as though it's only suitable for a private setting. You'd be better off with this "Approved educational institutions, such as schools and colleges, can ask to invigilate exams themselves without proctoring - see ‘room and technical requirements’ below." Then you won't have issues with the camera - the exam itself shouldn't be nearly as fussy. But that's a ridiculous set of requirements and they should be ashamed. 1
NegativeKillDeath Posted February 27, 2025 Posted February 27, 2025 I'm glad to see someone else has the same issues with their music department that I do. These days I hear "industry standard" way more from music than I do from art.
dmj Posted February 27, 2025 Posted February 27, 2025 Run their system compatibility check, then fix accordingly IMO https://syscheck.bridge.psiexams.com/?filters=system:bridge,version:standalone,code:chromeext&lang=en%20
