Media Feature Pack

Hey all,

 

Using Windows 11 Education N and unable to install the Media Feature Pack to use the camera and other dependencies on a user's laptop. Normally, this is an easy fix by going into 'optional features' and installing that way, however when attempting to this on this users laptop I get the message Couldn't Add, when usually it installs right away.

 

I've attempted many things, windows updates, system file checker command, attempting to install with DISM, but none of it works. Specifically with DISM I get the message:

 

"Error: 1168 Element not found."

 

I then run DISM /Online /Get-Capabilities | findstr "Media.MediaFeaturePack" which returns with an identifier, which tells me that the feature is available but not installed.

 

Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated!

Can you convert from education N to education with a licence key?

Thanks for the quick reply, yeah. Same issue. Not sure what could be stopping it at this point, all of our other devices go through absolutely fine!

Had the same issue. We're using Windows 10 N LTSC license here, and we were unable to install this (was getting the same error)

 

A workaround that worked for us was creating a group policy(computer) and applying it to whichever OUs required it. After that if you search for "Add optional feature" on the Windows search and open it up, you should be able to then add the Media Feature Pack. (Computers would need to be restarted after applying the new GP).

 

Computer Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair (Enabled) 

 

In the options section, tick the box that says "Contact Windows Update directly to download repair content instead of Windows Server Update Services."

 

This should then allow you to manually add/install optional features onto PCs, e.g. Media Feature Pack
