Hi,

Thinking of installing it across site as we have roughly 20 screens and got more in the pipeline and i remember how good the software use to be.

i know back in the day we had to put a product activation into every install (we had 3 of them projector mounted to the whiteboard, can't remember the model).

With the V9s (we have V10s planned for the rest), do you just put the screen S/N into the software?

I'm also hoping i get the software pushed out via intune

I haven't generated a serial number for ActivInspire for a while, but IIRC, it's just a case of taking a serial number off a screen, and then running it through a serial number generator to create an activation key. If you have an activation key straight off the bat, even better,

With this activation key, you can now install the software. You can install the software multiple times with one key, so you don't need to do 1 screen = 1 license key, you just need to keep your number of installations broadly within the license agreement. Last time I spoke to Promethean, you could have the software installed on the computer attached to the screen, plus a couple of others for prep, so it's a pretty broad license. They're less keen on you using their software on rival vendors screens obviously, although there's no restriction or watermark in software.

@chrisgreenwood,

Though we haven't tested these steps formally, the below was given to us by a customer who wanted to use InTune to install ActivInspire:

1. Network installation of ActivInspire

Use the official Promethean installer to install ActivInspire in network mode. This installation creates 3 different files:

  • One for ActivInspire.
  • One for Base Resources.
  • One for Help.

Each installation should be separated and placed in a different folder, as they must be installed individually.

2. Using the IntuneWinAppUtil tool: Microsoft Guide

If you're not familiar with how to use IntuneWinAppUtil, follow the guide provided by Microsoft.

When running IntuneWinAppUtil, follow these steps:

  • Source folder: Select the folder where the official installer has downloaded the files (each installation in its own folder). Example: D:\Downloads\Intune\Activinspiremsi\source
  • Source file: Select the .msi file corresponding to the installation you want to deploy (e.g., ActivInspire.msi for the main installation).
  • Output folder: Choose the location where you want the .intunewin file to be created. Example: D:\Downloads\Intune\Activinspire msi\output
  • Catalog folder: Choose N.

Repeat this step for each MSI file (ActivInspire, Base Resources, Help) if you need to deploy all of them via Intune.

3. Create the Win32 app in Intune (1 app per .intunewin file)

Go to Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune), then navigate to Apps > All apps and click Add.

Select Windows app (Win32).

Then, you will be prompted to upload the .intunewin file you created in the previous step. Select it, then click Next.

4. Application Information

For the publisher, enter Promethean.

Click Next.

5. Configure the program

In the Program section, you can choose to disable uninstallation by setting "Uninstall available" to No.

Click Next.

6. Configure the requirements

Under Requirements:

  • Device architecture: Select 64-bit.
  • Minimum operating system: Select Windows 10 1607.

Click Next.

7. Configure detection rules

Go to Detection rules:

  • Select Manually configure detection rules.
  • Click Add.
  • For Rule type, select MSI. The product ID will be automatically filled based on the MSI file.

Click Next.

8. Leave "Dependencies" and "Supersedence" sections empty

You don't need to configure anything in these sections.

Click Next each time.

9. Assign the application

In Assignments, choose the group of devices to which you want to deploy the application.

Click Next, then Create to finalize the deployment.

Bonus: For ActivDriver, follow the same steps

You can follow the same process to deploy ActivDriver via Intune.

Here’s an example of what you should have :renditionDownload?rendition=THUMB720BY480&versionId=068PQ00000HGRyX&operationContext=CHATTER&contentId=05TPQ00000KP8Ry&page=0renditionDownload?rendition=THUMB720BY480&versionId=068PQ00000HGRAY&operationContext=CHATTER&contentId=05TPQ00000KPALf&page=0

Thanks, i found the activation keys on the side of the screen, the only issue we have is that one of them got rubbed out or something so waiting on the supplier for that :)

Thanks, i'll let Head Office know (they generally deal with installing packages)
