Edge has changed start up behaviour

Yesterday afternoon I got the first ticket informing me that Edge was asking users which profile to use, where previously it loaded a default profile that was signed in with their AD account, and forced to sync.

 

This only seems to be occurring for Windows 11 users.

I'm signed into Chrome right now, but if I try to access Google Workspace Admin console, after I sign in, it asks me to add profile... if I don't, it logs me out again.

 

I think I had a GPO set years ago to require a profile as I wanted everyone to use Chrome with their school Google account, but it's never asked me this until a couple of weeks ago.

you can force a profile in GPO to use local ad credentials if the cloud ones are unavailable. This would then prompt for you to add the cloud one and may ask about the old "profile1" but I assume you've not set this?

It was adding the cloud ones but still asking which profile to use.

 

I have found out what caused the issue though. Ephemeral profiles. At some point in May 2023 I (not that I remember the decision) forced ephemeral profiles. Yesterday, that decision bit me in the ass.

Might be worth checking to seeing if Chrome has ephemeral profiles. 😡
