Datalogger

Hi all,

 

A school I support have asked me about dataloggers - they used to have some physical dataloggers that were ancient and wondered if there is a more modern version or maybe an iPad app that can do the same things? I'm not aware of anything so figure I'd ask around!

Pasco - really good, sophisticated software, and a free Smartphone version too - SPARKvue. Vast range of sensors. However, it is !£expensive!. Available in UK through Vitta. The Smartphone version can (allegedly) use a phones built in sensors for simple experiments.

 

Data Harvest - I've not used anything like as much, but YUK. Software horrid, doesn't seem to be the range of sensors.

 

Both seem to be pushing "wireless" - not necessarily a good thing in my view. I don't i anything, so can't comment on that aspect.

Our science dept, use dataharvest. The sensors don't need a separate datalogger anymore and connect to the laptops via bluetooth. Their software is on the M$ store so staff can install it without administration, which is handy.

It would be nice if Science depts collaborated with Computing and D&T and built their own, they are so simple and all the sensors are readily available.

That's an ancient circuit.

An ESP32 / ESP8266 would do all that with Wifi/bluetooth on one chip. Or an Arduino, or Pi Pico, or pi.

If you have microbits i think you can use these with purple mash as data loggers. Possibly not the simplest way, but if you happen to have both then it would be a good use of them.

We like the uLog kit from LogITWorld. It's cross-platform, sends the data as keystrokes and the software is great.

Compared to the awful blue dataloggers from Sciencescope, they're brilliant.
