Hi,

Our current system is a little trolley that gets rolled out if needed and set up etc but we might be looking at something more permantly

Has anyone ever had Large screens in sports halls? (with shutters etc)

or what would you recomment for something more permament that doesn't require any setup.

I know one screen wouldn't be enough so we may need 2

We have two projectors (left and right), in shock absorbing cages and wall mounted screens.

Each projector has a ScreenBeam wireless Display, and a HD-T connection back to a HDMI matrix, in a cabinet in the store cupboard. The HDMI Matrix controls the third ScreenBeam (to run both screens together) or extra connections for HD-T from the back of the hall.

The AV cabinet also has the Amp and zone mixer which feeds the high level speakers, with wall mounted zone controllers for each side.

The setup allows two classes to be in the hall, or one teacher to run both screens by changing the input on the projectors. The sound follows the Projector source.

When we run performances, we run a desk mixer with Mics, Instruments etc into the Zone Mixer Via a multicore wall box, and hardwire the screens through the HDMI Matrix via extra HD-T connections in the same box (multicore and cat6 have Ben run "front" to "back" over the rafters).

Gives us simplicity for the teachers and flexibility for Performances.

The screens have been robust, although the projectors do need realigning every year or so.

Had a supplier in to have a look.

We're more likely going for a portable 86" (on one of them motorised stands)

yeah we have a 75" Newline on a motorized stand, interactive with wireless dongle, works a treat, works much better and much easier to set up than the old rickety projector and stand we had. Much brighter, easier to see, easier to move, big enough for large halls like the Gym. An 85" would be huge maybe a bit difficult to get through doors/into lifts if needed - our 75" newline barely fits into our lift! But for main hall use 86" would be better - 75" is a lil bit too small.

We also bought a 65" Hisense TV for around £400 and put it on a cheap Amazon £50 trolley mount, it's a lot flimsier and non interactive but it works just as well in smaller areas like the canteen and classrooms.

I would just stick with the age old magic forumla of one large electric pull down screeen bolted to the wall and one large projector bolted to the ceiling so that everyone can see the screen clearly, no set up time needed or daily manitenance. I even have a dedicated PC on mine so that everythings ready to go and working - just spend 20 seconds logging on and hey presto.

Wheeling around TVs all day and piddling around with HDMI converter cables is not what we should be spending our time doing.

yeah our main hall has the electric pull down with the projector, but the TV's are used in multiple locations - I've found the 75" newline is very easy for teachers to use by themselves - we leave the HDMI and power plugged in and they are happy to drag it to where it is needed (usually just kept in the gym) - and they are happy to plug their laptop into it and it gets autodetected - I barely ever need to touch it. The hisense one is mainly a backup one as they'll book 2 things on at the same time both needing it. Our alternative was a projector on a wheeled stand and a rollable mobile projector screen - which the teachers couldn't set up so I had to mess with it a lot more - so the TV's make much more sense to me if they are to be used in multiple locations. I had to move 2 things before myself now I barely touch it.

I can see a 86" fit through the doors just our 75" is a tight fit - we have to lower the motorized stand. I guess you'd have 2 people and just push the 86" one through horizontally. But that wouldn't fit in the lifts we have here

Just go for
and be done with it.

Yours for only... £81 grand!!! It's hard to judge scale in videos just imagine what that must look like in real life!

I'm still waiting for wallpaper displays - over 5 years ago I saw a demo of a reel of OLED "tape" - basically you could unfurl it and stick the strips on a wall just like wallpaper.

I guess they judged there would be no market for this kind of thing - but why not make "reels" of say 14" wide OLED wallpaper then you could just stick it on a wall - with the connector being on the bottom?

I guess getting pixel perfect alignment might be an issue - but you could handle that in software - perhaps height might be the main thing - how high do you make the reels? as the end user wouldn't be able to cut it to size and I guess making different heights just would be too expensive.

But having my entire wall be an animated fish tank or a summer view (like the bit in Hunger Games in the hotel or the Aliens simulated forest) would be amazing and we have the tech for it already!

ViewSonic had one at BETT in 2024, I assume it was there in 2025.

Honestly? Obviously the cost is prohibitive, but the actual picture was superb, and it was very well engineered from a visual standpoint. Everything seemed aligned.

Of course, I wouldn't wanna be the PE Teacher who didn't put it away to protect it and ended up with a ball damaging it!

We bought an Epson projector with a short throw lenses and used to put up a 4m x 3m screen to project from behind...daily. So we bough a long throw lens and had the projector mounted on the wall (caged) at the entrance of the sports hall, projecting onto the wall opposite that was painted white. There was a wall port high up on on the other side, reachable with a small platform, for the laptop HDMI cable to go in.

Reduced my time to, getting out the small platform, plugging in the HDMI and going for a brew. If they needed sound we had a portable speaker.

KPMS did the mounting and running the cables along the ceiling.

I'm glad this has been posted, I hope I am not hijacking the OP too much...

We are in a similar situation. The SLT are decided on one single projector mounted from the ceiling. They want an output size of around 5.8-6 meters wide.

The site manager has insisted on going for a Panasonic LED projector. We have two companies involved in quoting and both are suggesting a Panasonic PT-VMZ1EJ 7000 projector in conjunction with a wireless button panel to control the projector without needing the remote which will go missing anyway. Both are offering a one year warranty which I am not terribly pleased on so I have asked for costs to extend to at least 3 years.

For connecting devices other than hardwired HDMI, one supplier is suggesting using Microsoft 4k Wireless Display Adapter, the other the Panasonic "PressIT" display adapter which I am not so keen on as it has dongles on the user end that will go missing.

The second supplier did also suggest an Epson PU1007W 7000 lumens projector.

I would be really grateful for any recommendations on the projectors and also any experiences with the wireless display adaptors. The school is predominently Windows, with Chromebooks used by the children and iPads used by all. If only there was an Apple TV, Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter and Chromecast all built into one box!

Thanks as always guys. :D

ours is the sports hall so a ball would probably destory the projector, the set up takes about 5 mins to get up and down, my plan is a screen with a power lead they just plug in (and it turns on the screen, boots up the connected apple tv in the bracket thingy) and the also we have one of them sports curtains right in the way where we could mount it to the wall so everything would have to get offset.

I am looking at getting a quote for new projectors in the hall (they're both nearly over 10 years old and look naff) as TVs wouldn't work in our main hall due to the stage

ours is the sports hall so a ball would probably destory the projector

We just had a metal cage installed around the ones in the PE hall in our primary schools so when the 'little rascals' kick a ball at it, it just bounces off of the case and not the projector and all is good.
